Zu seiner Zeit war allerdings ein Alter von 18 Jahren vorgesehen, um eine Lehre beginnen zu können. Also dachte er sich: "Wenn nicht Mensch, dann Gold!" Und so begann er 1983 mit 15 Jahren eine dreijährige Goldschlägerlehre, um zu lernen, wie man Blattgold herstellt. "Damals gab es noch 16 Betriebe mit rund 30 Goldschlägern in Schwabach bei Nürnberg. Dazu kamen je vier Frauen als Goldbeschneiderinnen und Helferinnen. Eine von ihnen war meine Schwester", erinnert sich Auer. Pro Woche wurde ein Kilogramm Gold verarbeitet Quelle: rnz
