Werner Klemperer Gets Awards Sees Batman Talks about Hogans Heroes

from spookylorre

Verklempt about Werner? Then enjoy this assortment...his Award speeches, two interviews talking about Hogan's Heroes, and his Batman cameo. 1.2. - Werner's humble Emmy Awards moments (Steve Allen's "Seymour Berns" gag is a reference to the award show's producer.) 3-4 - 13 minute and 5 minute interview clips on "Hogan's Heroes" 5 - Da da da da da da da da da...BATMAN cameo. Werner was a remarkable guy; the son of a famous conductor, he came to America and, yes, served on OUR side in WW2. He often played villains in films and TV (aw, he got sadistic with Mort Sahl on a "Thriller" episode) and found enduring fame as Colonel Klink, the commandant. Unlike some others, Klemperer was glad to be known for a TV role and didn't resent being in the Klink as far as most of the public was concerned. He continued to work in the theater and take on a variety of interesting acting assignments. He was, along with John Banner and Robert Clary, Jewish, and didn't feel his show glorified the enemy or made them lovable. The show remains popular in syndication...and still controversial.
