According to media reports the United Nations secretary-general's Antonio Guetteres envoy for Western Sahara last week wrapped up the first talks in six years over the future of the territory mostly controlled by Morocco, saying the sides have agreed to meet again early next year. Six years after talks broke down; the meeting took place on Wednesday and Thursday, with neighbouring Algeria and Mauritania also attending. The meeting has been viewed as the start of a new chapter in the political process.
