What Comes After the Toolkit?
from Liminal Dialogues Hosted by Gabriele Pizzi and Nicolas Delgado Alcega
This conversation argues that the proper output of work on fragile territories is neither the plan, nor the paper, nor even the toolkit, but the protocol: a codification of flows of labor, matter, information, and attention that turns one-off, situated innovations into persistent, replicable, and composable routines. Positioned between Whitehead’s dictum that civilization advances by extending the number of important operations we can perform without thinking of them and the expanded definition of protocols emerging from the Protocol Institute, it reframes territorial capacity-building as protocolization. The conversation took place between Nicolas Delgado Alcega and Gabriele Pizzi while GP drafts a coming piece on protocolization, as part of an ongoing process of institutional clarification alongside pieces on the challenge methodology, the applied research organization, and the redefinition of territory begun in GP’s retrospective on work at Liminal.
