This is amazing media production. We were talking about ambitions and careers, and I realized how much we, meaning us, me and you two, tend to not be truthful with ourselves. Even amongst trusted friends, sometimes we still find it hard to declare and to state with confidence and certainty our true desires. It can be for many reasons, but number one is usually fear.
Fear that what we desire may not come true and fear that what we desire may actually come true. Mind boggling, right? I know. We can want something and fear getting it all at the same time.
My friend went on to make a comment that indicated that she straddled the line between wanting to be recognized in her industry as an industry authority, and at the same time, not wanting to seek attention. This is what we call playing small people. Unfortunately, you can't have it both ways. You have to be decisive with your desires.
Otherwise, you're sending mixed messages. How can a universe or anyone else in your industry, in your life, for that matter, help you to get what you want if you're not clear? Say what you really want and speak up for what you really want. How many times have you verbalized your desires to other people yet downplayed the role that you really want to play?
How much of this is due to you potentially not thinking that you can achieve said desires, or not feeling worthy of thinking that you actually can achieve those desires? That's not helpful. It's hurtful, actually. So as we're continuing to chat, I followed up with my friend about her declaration of her desire, and I asked a very pointed question.
Do you want to be recognized for your talents or not? She hesitated for a brief second then promptly said, yes, with conviction! And I was a little shocked. Her expression seemed a little relieved to have finally admitted what she truly wanted.
Take a second. If you think about what you truly want, are you scared to vocalize that to someone? Is that fear of vocalizing it, holding you back maybe from getting exactly what you want out of life? It's okay to admit what you really want.
Share your real desires in those truth moments with trusted friends, people who you know only want the best for you, people who will pour into you and speak life into you, and your dreams and desires. Allow yourself to hear your truth. That's what you're also doing when you're speaking it to someone else. You're reaffirming it to yourself.
Allow yourself to feel it as well. Feel what the experience would be like if you were to get what you wanted. Clearly verbalizing your desires makes a stronger case for making your desires a reality. So the next time someone asks you what you want, say it like you mean it.
Thank you so much for spending time with me today, and thank you hugely to those of you who have been sharing this pod with friends and speaking positively about your experience. I really appreciate it, and as always, be well.
