Shirley has overcome many obstacles, first learning the difficult challenges of life at a young age. Shirley spent her childhood being raised in strong, blended, blue-collar homes with parents who taught a firm work ethic and how faith in God is a necessity. Persevering through life’s adversities, she always has the dedication and determination to overcome the multitude of obstacles laid before her. While raising three young children as a single mother and working full-time in the legal field, Shirley became a first-generation college grad, ultimately achieving a Juris Doctorate from BSL (2008) and Masters’ degree from JSU (2006). Shirley founded Millwood Law Firm, LLC in 2009, opening the first law firm in Alexandria, where she continues to practice. During her years as a trial lawyer, she has focused on family law, adoptions, appellate cases, estate administration, estate planning, guardianship, conservatorships, commitment proceedings, and the like. For years, Shirley has been entrusted to serve as the Guardian Ad Litem to represent a multitude of children. Shirley has spent countless hours in the courtrooms advocating for her clients. Shirley exemplifies core family values and has empathy for others who may travel her similar life path, including the loss of an adult child. She is a devoted mother to her children and loves being G-Mom to her blend of grandchildren. When not working, Shirley enjoys gardening, chasing sunsets and various projects.
