We come into this world compassionate. Violence is taught. We buy organic and free-range because we believe we're good people, BUT WE DON'T WANT TO BE TOO INCONVENIENCED.It's not HOW we keep animals, IT'S THAT WE BRING THEM INTO THIS WORLD ONLY TO KILL THEM. It's a system of violence that's unchecked. Check out Gail Eisnitz's book Slaughterhouse. It's painful to become awake but the price we pay for not being awake is hardening our hearts and our awareness of truth.WHAT IS COMPASSION? It's connection and awareness that whatever I do impacts someone else. The point is not to be vegan. It's to be compassionate, and veganism is the way to get there. It's easy to say we're compassionate, but where is that manifesting in daily behavior.Change only happens when we're willing to stretch comfort zones. Many people are happy and busy and feel like they can't fit anything else in, but MANY PEOPLE ALSO FEEL LIKE SOMETHING IS MISSING.Evolution is the thing because the alternative is to stay stagnant. Change happens when we inspire each other as humans. If you think vegan will be hard, that's what it'll be.The foundation of most cultures' cuisines IS PLANTS.The first step to being a joyful vegan is to orient that way.Being vegan is about saying NO to cruelty, unhealthiness, violence, habitat devastation, and slaughter, and saying YES to flavor, abundance, joy, health, wellness, and compassion.Perception shift: animal products do not have to be the center of the plate. Replace the animal with plant protein and have lots of side dishes. If you have an option to be compassionate, take it.No matter where you live, there's always something you can do to support native pollinators and wildlife.Wherever you can, START.Colleen's favorite foods: tofu, carrots, peanut butter, popcorn, blueberries, and chickpeas. **The information provided on this podcast does not, and is not intended to constitute legal or medical advice; all information, content, and material on this site are for generalinformational purposes only.
