For many of us, living off-grid translates as exiling ourselves from society and limiting our interactions with one another. Hollywood has played a major role in (mis)shaping our ideas around what it means to live off-grid, putting a negative spin on what it means to be self-sustaining by way of how we consume energy (heat, gas, electricity) for day-to-day living. #education #livingoffgrid #consumption 0:00 - 2:30 - Intro 2:30 - 14:44 - What does it mean to live off-grid? 14:44 - Wrap Up Many of us wouldn't blink twice at the thought of paying out-of-pocket indefinitely for electricity, heat, and gas. It's always been the model and it seems rather complicated and inconvenient to try a more sustainable route. That is until recently. New technologies make it more feasible (and accessible) to be self-sustaining leveraging new green energies like solar panels, wind mills, and hydro. As cities re-think their infrastructure to make space for hybrid and electric technology, it gives each of us an opportunity to rethink our consumption and decide if we would like to opt-out of the grid, and live off-grid. While there are extremes in ideology, methodology, and practice, I've discovered that there's a happy medium for each of us to discover. Ultimately, living off-grid offers more autonomy and flexibility in the ways we decide to develop our consumption consciousness and the lifestyles that those choices create. #education #livingoffgrid #consumption Any questions?
