Oh, it's that music again. How did that happen? Probably appropriate for today. Hi everybody, it's Monday.
I'm Michael Gross, this is the Daily Grateful, am I grateful today? Let's work on that, shall we? You don't happen when you die? Oh, what a wonderful thing to start off with on a Monday on the Daily Grateful.
Do you know what happens when you die? I'm gonna tell you what happens when you die because I've been around a lot of people, not a lot, but I've been around family members who have died, I've been around friends who have died, lots of friends lately who have died. You know what happens? You're loved ones, you know the people that are in charge of your end of life, they start disassembling you.
Yeah, they start disassembling your whole life. Very quickly, they start doing this. All of your belongings that you have, that you've cherished, that have been important to your whole life, they're either given away or donated or thrown out in the trash. Yeah, that's what happens.
And then very, very soon, very soon after you have passed away, the service happens or not. I mean, I have a friend who passed away unexpectedly, a lady that I've known since we were in eighth grade, eight grade. I mean, that's a lot of years because I'm old, trust me, I'm very old, but it's like 55 years we've known each other. Just spoke to her not long ago, she was just on Facebook and she died.
And her one remaining family member has just decided, I will have a service for her in the winter. Okay, in the winter, and I'm saying, all right, in the winter, not winter, we're in the winter, we'll get around to having a service for her. Because, you know, maybe my life is too busy now, is your life gonna be busy in the winter? Because, you know, that's what happens.
That is what's happened because when you're gone, and people forget about you, people forget about you very quickly. No, I have never forgotten about my sister, got I think about her all the time. I have never thought, you know, forgotten about my mom. I think about mom every day since she died, and she died in 2005.
Other people that I've known are just gone. I don't think about him hardly at all, almost never. All the friends that I went to school with that are gone, rarely do I think of them, rarely. So, understand that your impact on life is personal.
It's all about you, and it's all about the people that you love. And if I've learned anything from this whole thing that happened with my friend who died, is to make every damn day count. I mean seriously, every day of your life, you need to make it count. You know what I did yesterday?
I spent the whole day with three of my five grandchildren. Oh my gosh, did I, you know, their mom was off at a 90s con convention, and I was at their place hanging out with them. And it, what a wonderful time I had. Just one super wonderful time I had.
I found out I didn't know my 11 year old grandson knows how to make eggs. I didn't know how to make eggs when I was 11. You know, I know when I learned how to make eggs? When I was 45.
Whoa, you know, and he has one of those virtual reality headset thingies, you know, I put it on. Wow, I said, what the hell is this? Have you done one of those? You know, those are my experiences.
Make every day count. That's what you need to do, because when you're dead, man, guess what? You're gone. There's, you know, your entire existence.
I came home from that. I came into my home and I looked at all this stuff in my home that is important to me. And I said, oh, yeah, okay. What's gonna happen to all of this?
And you know, I guess about a year or so ago, I made a decision that I needed to start doing that. I used to have three original Peter Max works of art here in my house. I gave each one to different of my children that I knew would appreciate. In my living room, I have my late father's burial flag.
I'm gonna give it to my oldest son Tyler and let him be the custodian. I'm gonna do that sooner rather than later. I'm not gonna wait until I'm croaked to do it. Okay, I'm just giving away a lot of stuff that is important to me, because I'm getting older, not younger.
I'm letting that be part of other people's lives is what I'm doing. And then when it comes my time to go, yeah, they can disassemble what they wanna disassemble. But in the meantime, guess what I'm gonna do? Guess what I'm gonna do.
I'm gonna live every day to the fullest. I'm gonna wake up every morning, which I did this morning, and I'm gonna say it's gonna be a great day. I'm so grateful that I'm alive. I'm so grateful that I have family.
I am so darn grateful that I exist in this world today. I am so grateful that I discovered, you know, really good music, every day, new, good music. You know, they used to say, oh, the old hits were the best. No, listen to Billy Eilish.
Oh, phenomenal. Listen to Charlie Puth, phenomenal. I'm just get out there, live your life. Be grateful.
Every day is important. Every damn day is important. I love you. See you tomorrow.
