I have participated in, okay, I saw elections, countless elections, class elections, school organizational elections, national, international elections. As a candidate or as part of a campaign team. And each loss was a lesson not without the pain and the disappointment. But each was an opportunity for growth.
But we don't focus on the shit, right? We focus on what we get out of it. Ben Franklin I haven't failed. I just figured out the 1,000 ways it won't work.
The key, which I keep forgetting, is to learn from the mistakes. But we are so stubborn. The journey from the opportunity to success gets so much longer for the people of Israel. What should have taken a few weeks was instead completed in what, 40 years?
Plain hard headedness. Conscious compromise. We saw this right? Lack of belief, lack of faith.
Interestingly, the opportunity remained. The timing just kept on being adjusted. Fail fast and learn even faster. This is what I picked up from COOL founder Roland Ross when we had an exchange the other week as we reflected on the social media app that he founded.
Crashing the other week when my son called in supporters to reach a new target for concurrent viewers on a live stream. The record was smashed, but not without the system crashing at the beginning of his stream. But what again did Roland remind us? Fail fast and learn even faster.
Agile Product development, right? Version 2.0, 3.0, 4.0. Roland announced that the capacity of the App was enhanced 5x the day after the infamous crash. The intent to fail, but with a deeper conviction to learn from it and to get better after it.
I graduated from my university after nine years. Okay? Nine years. Magna student, right?
They called me Magna. Nine years in college, not a few dropped and failed subjects. Okay, here I am, I'm getting it. Which I had to take over and over again.
Exam after exam, lecture after lecture, visit after visit to my professors in their homes to submit late assignments. Yes, yes, yes. We didn't send stuff online, okay? At that point in history, I will always remember completing ES44.
What's that? That's engineering sciences 11, taken four times. And to think I finished a nine year college day with a final course as I shifted several times that I didn't even end up practicing, which is architecture. So what if I fail at this chance again?
Well, you know what if I fail at this chance again, then I fail at this chance again. Failure is really but a moment at its worst, an event. And moments and events do not have to define you nor your lifetime. Michael Jordan, you know this sport.
I missed more than 9,000 shots. 9,000 in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed.
I failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed. Look at my five kids, right? They're in front of me as I prepare this. And just now it hits me.
If my wife, myself, having failed more than once, twice, thrice. Okay, okay. This is public information. Anyway, in her relationships before me, if she chose not to take the chance again with me, there would have been no Ella, Donnie, Hannah, Benjamin, Solana.
It may not be as dramatic an insight for you, but it is a bombshell realization for me. But note this. Please note this. None of those failed chances mean a thing to my wife today.
And without a shadow of a doubt, the nth choice this time with me. For her, looking at our kids was all worth it with the conviction and the learning and renewed courage. Do consider taking another chance, my friend, so you can welcome that brand new end. Still need some time to ponder.
