Church polity may not be the most exciting topic to listen to (or to preach on), but it makes the difference between chaos and order. People often leave churches over how the church is governed (or not governed). It is an important biblical issue that needs to be carefully considered and applied. Who has the authority to make decisions? How are disputes handled? Do we practice church discipline? Who makes sure the sick are visited or the needs of the widows are met? Who are the leaders? How are they chosen? Is there any voting involved in answering these questions? Who qualifies to vote on them?
