What is a defining moment? This is the Daily Disturbance podcast with Anthony Vanityman. So I was about to enter grade one, six years old or so, and I was informed by the principal that I was welcome to join any of the 10 regular sections. That meant that I didn't make it to the academic honor sections.
Unlike my brothers ahead of me and my sisters in their school ahead of me too. I'm number six in the family. All five were in academic honors sections. That was a defining moment in my life.
And I remember responding grade one telling myself, I will excel in everything non academic. A defining moment. You know it's something that happens to you, right? Or it's something that happens in you.
Or perhaps both. Like the day you realize that you can get dad to do what mom want for you. Come on, you know what I'm talking about. Defining moment.
Your first kiss. Oof. Or when you see your first kiss kiss someone else. Ouch.
The day you're hired or fired. Pregnancy is another defining moment, right? Especially if you didn't plan it. Your wedding day.
Or sadly, the day your parents decided to break their vows. All kinds of defining moments. Big, medium, small, Past, present, future, good, bad, ugly. It was Mark Twain, right?
Who said the two most important days of your life. Now, defining days. Not just moments. The day you are born and the day you find out why they call defining moments.
Because they precisely do that. They define you. They redefine you. Suddenly you realize that you can still transform.
Turning an obstacle to an opportunity or a stumbling block into a stepping stone or being blown away by wind you thought you had under your control. What is your defining moment? At this moment. That's why Citizen, perhaps this podcast.
