He would tell the news, add his own commentary, and share one of his famous "the rest of the story" tales. He also occasionally narrated essays, like the one I'll be reading today. Paul Harvey was a huge influence on my speaking style, especially his use of dramatic pauses, seamless segues, and conciseness.The essay I'll be reading today is "A Policeman." It's a topic that was close to Paul Harvey's heart, as his own father was a police officer who was murdered when Paul was just three years old. I've edited the essay slightly to modernize a few bits of his mid-20th century vocabulary, but I've resisted the temptation to mimic Harvey's voice and exact cadence.
