What is Alternative Data?

2020 has been the year of Alternative Data. As Covid-19 caused unprecedented changes to sweep the global economy, investors and analysts have sought new ways to get a real-time picture on the effects the virus was leaving in its wake. Meanwhile, technological advances in big data and machine learning have provided new sources from which to gain a day-to-day understanding of these seismic changes.
