The terms have been used, banished, and used again. Dr. Tim Cermak tried to get the terms included in the 4th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, but so far, the term has not been included. One of the first books, Codependent No More, was written by Melody Beattie.
