What Is Death Doula And Why We All Should Have One

from Third Chances · host Vera Czerny

Is there anything more taboo in today’s fast-paced world than a conversation about the end of life? Yet it's one of the random “certainties“ we all share. In today's episode, we talk with Jill McClennen, an End of Life Coach or Death Doula, and what it even means. If you never heard of such a thing, you're not alone! She founded her business called,  End of Life Clarity to provide valuable support to people facing the end-of-life reality - either those who're preparing for the end of their own life or those who need to become an end-of-life caregiver to a loved one.  We talked openly about  Why she didn't become a brain surgeon What it meant for her to become a full-time caregiver (unprepared) while running her demanding business and being a mom to 6 month old... What questions do you need to know to ask to avoid a lot of issues and stress Who may want to hire Death Doula and when is the right time What kind of support can she provide and how it help to make the  process much less stressful - and even enjoyable sharing the last  moments with the loved one on a whole different level Be assured this is not all gloom and doom an episode! Jill is very personable and a joy to speak with. And although I’m all about longevity, the best quality of life possible, and keeping positive in optimal shape, I also have a personal experience of how it looks like when things are not arranged, prepared, or even discussed, and you're faced with sudden reality. This theme may not be popular, but inevitable. I believe it's an important subject to talk about openly, and be aware of what options we have out there when we face the situation no one wants to face. Jill is an incredibly interesting person to meet and learn from, and she shares several lightbulb moments in this episode so I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did!"Caregiving at the end of life involves much more than the daily hands-on tasks of helping someone who is terminally ill or actively dying. There are times when it can feel overwhelming and confusing. When you are an end-of-life caregiver you are providing emotional, spiritual, mental, and physical support for someone that you love at the end of their life. Being a caregiver for your loved one can be very fulfilling but it can be hard to take care of our own emotional, spiritual, mental, and physical needs. In this journal, I have provided information about what being a caregiver is, information about self-care, and journal prompts to help guide you through this journey. You may want to have a blank journal or a document on your computer to write more than the amount of space provided. You will discover what works best for you."  Jill McClennenConnect with Jill:LINKEDIN     WEBSITE     FACEBOOK       INSTAGRAM She also has her own podcast named, Seeing Death Clearly Grab her an End of Life Caregiver Journal on Amazon!
