Fibrosis isn't just something that happens during the post-op healing process. It's not exclusive to plastic surgery and didn't come from the plastic surgery recovery world. Fibrosis is an inflammatory process that can happen anywhere and any time swelling is present. Clients with Lymphedema, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lyme, Fibromyalgia, and any other condition with chronic swelling and inflammation often develop fibrosis as well. It's not always lumps and bumps. It can present as long chords, overall hardness/ stiffness/ orange peel appearance of the skin, etc. When talking about reducing, preventing, and getting rid of fibrosis, you first need to understand that it's an aggravated form of swelling and inflammation. When we look at lifelong conditions like lymphedema where fibrosis is a common occurrence, we're not using wooden rollers, machines, or deep pressure and cause massive amounts of pain to our bodies while trying to get rid of fibrosis. So why are we trying to do that to our bodies post-op? It's not helping the healing process by doing those things, it won't get rid of your fibrosis, and it's unnecessary pain, money, and frustration. Follow the science! Fibrosis isn't a mysterious thing exclusive to post-op. Enroll in our online course to learn more about what exactly causes fibrosis, how to get rid of and prevent it, what to do if you already have fibrosis, and things you need to be doing to work WITH the body to heal properly post-op, not against it.
