WHAT IS INDEPENDENCE?

I speak unto you this day and I ask, what is independence? According to American belief, independence was freedom from the oppression of British rule which occurred in the late 1770’s as the colonies revolted. The British had held the colonies under strict taxation without representation and the European settlers who had migrated to the land were being oppressed.
