What is my burning out throwing out? This is the daily service podcast with Anthony Engineman. Not a few stories of people I know as I start this. You know, who burnt out and who stayed there, leaving the people closest to them having to pack their bags and go again.
That anonymous but all too reasonable, right? And relatable advice. And I quote, at some point you have to realize that some people can stay in your heart, but not in your life. So what do I throw up when I burn out?
What are the consequences? Can you tell me, what do I stand to lose? Number one, a lifestyle worth emulating as a parent, as a leader, or even just as a friend wanting to influence other friends. My getting burnt out and staying there makes it less and less likely that my lifestyle will inspire anyone to follow, right?
It's not a lifestyle worth emulating. It's not our position John Maxwell reminds us, but our disposition that moves everyone else. You may know this already, right? Robert Downey's fan base was all but gone when he burnt out after a great start in his film career.
Due to what? Substance abuse resulting to a number of arrests, rehab visits, a conviction, a jail term. Unfortunately, it also led to a divorce, the loss of both his wife who took his son, leaving him in such a sorry state. Now we know he eventually recovered, but the cost of losing it was certainly quite high at that point and for a long time after his life, his lifestyle was certainly not worth emulating.
Anglakkin Kawalan what else do we stand to lose? Number two, impact. It's not just a life not worth following, it's actual impact. When I burn out, I throw out the opportunity to impact, to provide quality, to accomplish excellence, to add value to the people around me, to the company, to the work that I do.
The ability to burn brightly, to shine is greatly diminished, even extinguished my burnout. And these days we see more and more people slipping into burnout, right? Given the inability to respond to the many changes and circumstances this global pandemic has brought about. I said slipping into burnout, right?
Because it just doesn't happen overnight. So arrest it before it arrests you. Of course, burning out also cuts the chances off. Number three, finishing strong.
Now we all get knocked down, but a burnout, especially if unaddressed, knocks you out, it is finished. Game over. I think of a person, even as I speak now, who's struggling to get back on his feet as I share this message. Took negative personal habits for granted for a long time.
Left unchecked the ill treatment he was giving to his partner in life Ignored calls to follow through business ideas, great ones with actual execution, and is paying the price. Daily to this very day, I witnessed the process unfold. The business is gone, so is the partner, and health challenges are keeping this person down. Only a miracle can turn this life around.
And I do believe in miracles. I'm praying for a miracle before it's too late. I for one, have had more failures and ventures than I wish I had in the past 30 years. And some of them, no matter how I tried, I could no longer resuscitate.
I didn't finish strong. Thank God for His mercy and grace. I'm still alive and the topic of my podcast last week. He's given me second, third, fourth, fifth chances.
Finally, burnout throws out, hopefully just momentarily, number four, Enthusiasm in and for life. This is at least one distinguishing factor between regular stress and actual burnout. See, because burnout carries with it, as we shared a few days ago, a sense of helplessness, hopelessness, cynicism, even resentment. Certainly far, far almost the opposite of Marie Kondo's ideal experience of sparking joy.
The mental journey thing about this, from the possibility of fruitfulness to languishing. And now we can insert burning out before eventually ending with depression. See, those are the opposites and the process from the best possible situation when it comes to your mental health, which is fruitfulness, to the worst, which is depression, even despair. I mean not a death sentence, even if many have felt it like a near death experience.
So to review, what do I throw out when I burn up, right? What are the consequences? L a lifestyle worth emulating. I impact.
How can I still make a difference? F finishing strong and E enthusiasm in and for life. I throw out L I F E I throw out life. Hang in there.
That is all. Kapitlang wa pagasa. Yesterday we looked at how we get all burnout. Today we look at the price to pay.
Hopefully your heart is set to make a go off it, to get back on track or to make sure you don't fall over tomorrow. We look at how we can make that happen if we choose to. Bob Marley My quote, you never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice. End quote.
Earlier we talked about Robert Downey's burnt out experience, which, thank God was but an episode in his life. And the amazing thing about these episodes is, seen from the right perspective, they actually turn out for the person's greater good. As he recovered, Robert Downey rose to an even greater level of success before he burnt out. To this day, he remains one of the most successful box office stars of all time, not to mention the highest paid as well.
When asked what was the key to his turnaround, he replied, and I quote, it's really not that difficult to overcome these seemingly ghastly problems. What's hard is to decide to do it. End quote. So decide to rise again, my friend.
