What is Nevuah (Prophecy)? (Hilchos Yesodei ha'Torah 7:1)

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text!This afternoon (4/8/21 at YBT) in our Rambam Bekius chavurah we began the next topic in Hilchos Yesodei ha'Torah: nevuah. We started off by trying to guess what the Rambam included in his formulation of the ikkar of nevuah. We then read his definition of that ikkar in his Intro to Perek Chelek and tried to make sense of what he was saying. We ended off by reading his definition of nevuah, his description of neviim, and his account of the process of getting nevuah. Suffice it to say, there is a LOT to unpack here! We did manage to explain some of it, but we're definitely going to have to revisit it next week and see what we can decipher. Each session consists of us reading through the Rambam's writings together without much preparation on my part, and without going into depth by consulting commentaries or primary sources. For all these reasons, there are bound to be inaccuracies, errors, and other types of shortcomings which would not be acceptable in a prepared shiur, but are quite typical of a bekius chavurah.
