They note that schizophrenia is often confused with dissociative identity disorder in pop culture, perpetuating confusion. Sarah and Gabrielle also discuss the importance of sharing stories of individuals with mental illness who have succeeded in life to help reduce stigma and provide hope for those struggling with mental illness. Sarah notes that the false narrative of individuals with schizophrenia being serial killers or mass murderers is not true. She emphasizes that individuals with schizophrenia are not necessarily bad people and that many are family-oriented and have goals.
