Romans 3:23–25 (ESV) — 23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. A) OUR HUMAN PROBLEM - ALL HAVE SINNED - ALL FALL SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV) — 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. Jude 24 (ESV) — 24 Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blamelessbefore the presence of his glory with great joy B) DIVINE SOLUTION- Images of the Atonement 1. Justification: Colossians 2:13–14 (ESV) — 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (ESV) — 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2. Redemption: John 8:34 (ESV) — 34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.
