Introduction Our Eternal Purpose: The Great Commandment “Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory” (Isaiah 43:7; See also Ephesians 1:11-12, 3:21, Revelation 4:11)) “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength… You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:28-31) Our Specific Mission: The Great Commission • The Old Testament (‘Creation Work’): Genesis 1:28 Exodus 1:7,12,20 • The New Testament (‘New Creation Work’): Matthew 28:18-20 (See also Luke 24:45-47, Acts 1:8, 2 Peter 3:9) Therefore: The Mission of the Church = Making Disciples (Evangelism + Edification) Acts 2:47, 4:4, 5:28, 6:1, 6:7, 9:31, 12:24, 16:5 (see Colossians 1:6,10) Implications a) For Churches b) For Individuals “Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labour is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)
