What Is the Old Republic?

To those who may not be aware, many Star Wars fans have been desirous to see storytelling in an era known as "the Old Republic". While this concept was vaguely mentioned in A New Hope, the modern Star Wars canon has yet to touch the Old Republic era, save for a few miniscule mentions. Join with me as I explain what the Old Republic is, as well as possible stories we might see in that context.
