What is the way out of my burnout? This is the Daily Disturbance podcast with Anthony Undineman. Yes. Okay.

It's not about you. Some people say it's not about me. Anthony, how about this? I'm really asking for somebody else.

Well, whether it applies to you right now or not, someday, you know, you could be in that situation. So it's good to get ideas, okay. On how to re. Establish the way.

Let me name three, just three. Number one, you gotta recognize the condition. Number two, you have to reverse the situation. And number three, you gotta recover the person.

Okay, that's it. Thank you. See you tomorrow. Joking.

I wish it was that easy. Let's go deeper with each of the three. Number one, recognize the condition. Remember the three signs of or not.

Number one is their physical and emotional exhaustion. Number two, is there a sense of helplessness, hopelessness, cynicism, negativity? Number three, are there clear signs of drops or losses in terms of your output, your results, your productivity? See if any of these stay applied, name it so that you can tame it.

And perhaps you aren't there fully, but if you see signs of it, start dealing with it. When one is on the edge, think about this. I'm talking about margins here. Take note.

All it takes is one nudge, one incident, one sickness, a strong wind to push that person over the edge. Now, if there isn't enough margin or allowance in your life right now, then you are at risk. So build it. In the song Solomon, the writer admits, and I quote, they made me keeper of the vineyards, but my own vineyard I have not kept revealing, Guys, is a key to healing.

Psalm 32. Day and night, you, hand was heavy upon me. My strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged what my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity, and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Your steadfast love surrounds those who trust in you. Think about it. It must be heavy upon me if it's the hand of the One who created the earth and the heaven above me. For the past years, decades now, Arisal and I have opened our lives to people who have offered us their expertise and love to deal with moments of periods, of challenge, of conflict and, yes, even burnout.

Counselors, right? Mentors, advisors, coaches. Some have been more effective than others. Some did a bit of damage too, as I have done myself in the lives of others.

I'm sorry, but overall, this practice of vulnerability, of opening up a safe marriage, and has been foundational in whatever good we may have contributed to this world, starting perhaps with our own family and through our company. And it's not the one time operation, but the regularity of the intervention that's truly made a difference. So number one is recognize the condition. Number two, reverse the situation.

To reverse. To make a U turn is to repent. Literally to change one's mind. And in this case, I'd like to bring back an acronym that I shared when I did a piece on rest.

Okay, the acronym, the guide is the word recreate. If I'm going to reverse the situation, I have to recreate the good life. Number one, I have to rest. Or in practical terms, okay, you are exhausted, then sleep.

Sometimes the most spiritual and practical thing God wants you to do is to sleep, as he made Elijah do right when he was exhausted from ministry. Number two, recreate exercise E many times it's not the enormity of the challenge, it's the lack of ability of the challenge. Taker exercise hits many birds right with one stone. Physical, emotional, spiritual.

Number three, Recreate. C. Connect with men and women who are burning brightly without burning up. I for example, I read the Rick Warren Steve Furtick online.

I will have a chat with my Daniel Zelana, meaning light when I need some shine in my life or when she invites me to join her to, and I quote, make kamai together for breakfast. And when I take Maricel's offer, okay 9 out of 10 times to join her in a walk or a run in the morning. Not all moments people are inspiriting and overflowing. So catch them when they are and drink up.

Connect with people burning brightly. Perhaps it's also helpful at this time to delegate. Consider delegating to people who are able to keep you from burning out. In Exodus 18, Jethro Moses Father in law could clearly see that Moses needed to pass on some responsibility since he could no longer handle the cases being brought in to resolve.

There were too many. Moses was called to macro lead and in this case not to micromanage. Think about this guys. For his own self care and the people's welfare, he heeded his father's advice.

Again, need does not constitute call my friend. Know your roles and separate the mandatory from the voluntary. Number four, Recreate or restore inner peace. This quote when things change inside you, things change around you.

Well, sometimes your inner peace is also dependent on re establishing outer calm. So should you let go of overly toxic friends, goodbye. Should you be welcoming now new and more interesting friends, hello. Should you reset those boundaries and defend them to the death?

Restore inner Peace. Number five. Embrace the Sabbath. Make the time of the ten Commandments.

The commandment on the Sabbath is the longest in terms of words and spaces. In other words, God is hinting, give it time and space in your schedule. Sabbatical right is also a form of rest. In music, the periods of rest are as important as those times notes are played.

Think about it. You want a good symphony, not just a bunch of great notes, my friend. Number 6. Recreate from Embrace E.

It's a Allow the development of anti. I call it anti burnout habits. Tony Robbins. I quote, understanding how to find the magic moments in your daily life is critical.

If you subscribe to the philosophy that says my vacation will free me from burnout, then you're waiting for a few days out of the year to make up for many days of stress and possible burnout. Instead, you have to be able to take mini vacations on a daily basis. See, don't just do a bit, make it a habit. As Dory reminds us in finding Nebo, just keep what?

Swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Swimming, swimming.

Number seven. Recreate. T. Take the time to center.

Find your core, your balance, right at different times of the day or a busy week, burning brightly isn't just a moment of shining, it's a state of being. And finally, recreate. E. Engage with love.

I quoted this once, Teresa of Avila. Love turns work into rest. Sometimes we give too much, but it's possible to also have hoarded too much, leading to spiritual, physical, emotional constipation and yes, burnout. We make a living by what we get.

Church reminds us. But we make a life by what we give. So rest R E Exercise C. Connect with unburnt out people.

Recreate R. Restore inner peace E. Embrace the Sabbath A. Allow habit development.

D. Take time to center your being and E Engage with love. Recreate. Mark 6:31.

Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and rest. Let me add recreate. So we said recognize the condition and we just talked about reverse the situation. Now let's wrap up with recover the person recover, not relapse.

Moving forward, not sitting back. So first learn the lessons. I love this reminder. The strongest hearts have the most scars.

Recover by re establishing a new way of life which might have to be redefined and re established again someday. Mind you, how many times have we had to shift and re establish a new way of life? This pandemic. I remember this executive who got so hooked to a sport, it consumed him, leading him to actually need neglect both his family and his business at his lowest point.

He decided on a new way of living. So he recognized the situation and then decided to reverse the condition. Now, when he began to restabilize, his friends reinvited him to the sport for old times sake. He put his foot down and refused.

He said no. Now he was criticized for being too dogmatic, too strict, you know, legalistic. But he knew his Achilles's heel, his weakness. He was being wise to set that boundary for keeps.

Number one, recognize the condition. Number two, reverse the situation. Number three, recover the person and rock and roll.
