What Is Toxic Positivity?

from The Deep Resilience Project

Positivity is a wonderful thing. But there are times when it can go too far.  Toxic positivity is a term used to describe an unhealthy fixation with positive thinking styles and pleasant emotional states.  Someone caught up in toxic positivity may try to be happy all the time, put positive spins on negative experiences, and even encourage others to remain positive in tragic and traumatic times. While this sounds like a good thing in principle, it can prevent us from healing and growing.  In this episode of Mentally Stronger, I explore the implications of toxic positivity and share my four ways to avoid it in your own life and have a healthier emotional expression.  Key links: Melli O’Brien: https://melliobrien.com
