What is worship?

We are taught and traditionally believe that we are to worship God alone and no one or nothing else. Then we read our scriptures and certain translations have humans being worshiped. So this creates a paradox with what we consider to be worship. So do these translations get it wrong? Is our understanding of worship wrong?
