What it Means to Open-Source Frontier Foundation Models with Meta's Joe Spisak

In the inaugural episode of the Attention Needed Podcast, we’re thrilled to welcome an esteemed guest who is at the forefront of building and facilitating an open-source community for Generative AI. Joe Spisak, Director of PM for Generative AI at Meta, where he leads Llama and third-party ecosystem efforts. Joe is the co-founder of the AI Alliance, a new organization co-launched by IBM and Meta that promotes open, safe, and responsible AI. He also chairs the Safety & Security workgroup. He spent the last decade in AI, leading products at PyTorch and working on initiatives that span protein folding and AI math, many of which have spun out for Meta into their own startups. In this episode, we’ll be discussing a variety of topics including the AI Alliance, the role of open-source, the competition at the state of the art frontier models, as well as the importance of addressing safety & security challenges.
