What journalism looks like: @Ariblaff's refreshingly open mind | HBR Talk 252

from Honey Badger Radio · host Honey Badger Brigade

Last week we went over an article published by the Institute for Family studies, by no means a left-wing publication, which could have easily been mistaken as a feminist-penned hit piece. Disappointing as that article was, we were alerted during the show to a newer article written by the same reporter after he was provided with an opportunity to meet and learn about men’s rights activists. Upon engaging in this extended research into the movement, Ari David Blaff did what real journalists do: He refined his own perspective based on the facts he had obtained, and accurately reported on the information he learned so that others could use it to do the same thing. This cultivation dissemination of a mental library of facts and logic for the public’s use in decision making is what real journalism is all about. While he still seems to hold misconceptions about incels, this current work indicates an open intellect that would evaluate information that contradicts that view rationally and mindfully if given the opportunity.
