In this episode I speak with Steve Pooks, known as 'Pooky' to his friends.Steve is ex Airforce. He did 20 years as a fast jet pilot primarily on Tornado. He did an exchange with the Australian Airforce flying F18's and then finished up as second in command in a Typhoon squadron. Steve is also a qualified weapons instructor, which is our version of Topgun and finished up as the tactical lead on the Typhoon.As you will hear, Steve has many other strings to his bow as well as being a qualified teacher.Steve shares the importance of building an open and honest culture where our mistakes can be openly discussed and learnt from. This means dropping the Ego and accepting that you don't have to have all the answers, it's a team effort.There has to be an acceptance that we will make mistakes but treating mistakes as a learning opportunity rather than failure.Listen to Steve talk about what makes a great leader and how to balance the task against the person.
