All right, so what's going to happen with this podcast next hmm. I need to go over a little analytics with you We'll do that in just a second And how are you doing welcome to the daily grateful I'm Michael gross, and I don't know if I'm going to keep doing this or not I'm working on it. I need oh, let's talk about things here a little bit long ago and far away I was a radio announcer talk show host talent One of those guys yeah, it was me on the radio just doing stuff every weekend doing it very well as a matter of fact Had literally millions of listeners literally millions of listeners because one of the radio networks that worked for actually bought the book It was the ratings book and I had literally millions of listeners and then radio changed radio shrunk And radio networks came and went and I finally went to work for the business talk radio network nice people Wonderful wonderful wonderful people and then they were bought out by some people in Texas I don't know who never have figured out who okay, but they changed their name from business talk radio net to Radio and there was never anybody to talk to because the program director this week would be gone next week the general manager This week would be gone next week, and there was nobody you know So I was not happy because my listenership dropped so I had a gardening show I was doing a gardening show and I turned I decided I was gonna try something Podcasting was kind of new back then not that new but new and I was you know not been doing some podcasting in the past But I decided there's four segments in an hour of my show and I decided to make each segment a show into itself They didn't realize this on the radio because they never listened whoever they were because I never figured out who they were never did And not even sure they still exist. I don't know but here's what I do know My audience shrank it shrank dramatically.
So I started doing the podcast I would take four episode, you know four segments and turn them into podcast and then I would record a fifth segment And I would release five podcasts a week about gardening. That's what I did. Just talk about there It was really no nothing really hard to do about it I just took my radio show and you know took four sections of it stuck it out as a podcast through some do I hear thunder anyway through some Research I discovered that my podcast audience was enormous compared to my radio audience my radio audience through my research Which I've talked about on the show before was pretty direct and I had virtually no radio audience So eventually I got out of my contract and eventually I was done with radio and it took me a couple years to get out of that contract But I got that and I'm done with radio and just thrilled and I took some time off And then I decided I wanted to talk on the microphone again And the reason I did that is I had the opportunity I was still doing commercials and you know a few fill-ins here and there But I went and did an audio book at a studio up in Brooksville, Florida It was a technical audio book for you know one company was 44 pages type written pages not double spaced And I went into the studio The only reason I took the gig is because they had a nom in microphone that I'd never even seen Let alone talked into and the concept and the thought of being able to be in a studio and using nom in microphone Oh god, it would make me so happy just made me so very happy So I went up there and I did that it was a single read just went right through it once screwed up a few times They said don't where you're gonna screw up. We'll edit it You know we'll fix it all in post so I said there one read through boom goes to dynamite forty two forty four pages Whatever it was I didn't screw up that much at all actually, but you know boom And it was all done and off I went and they gave me some money and I was you know I didn't want to leave because the microphone was just so nice.
Anyway, and I'd love to have one of those microphones They're about thirty five hundred dollars and I can't spend thirty five hundred dollars on a microphone Plus that you need a room for it and this room is set up for this microphone and this audio equipment And I it would cost me probably two thousand dollars to get this room set up to use a nom in microphone So I you know I'm not gonna get a nom in microphone But anyway, it was fun, but that just made me want to do a podcast So I came up with the concept of doing this I got permission from a guy who was doing a similar podcast I wasn't going to do it unless he gave me his blessing He wrote me a nice email gave me his blessing and then I started doing the podcast and I gotta tell you something to not catching on It's not and I started doing I started researching and my gardening show when I did the gardening show I would have an average every week of about anywhere from ten to twenty five to thirty thousand people listen to it This isn't happening on this one. It just isn't I don't know why maybe I don't know I don't know I'm a storyteller and doing a daily podcast about being grateful doesn't lend itself to storytelling Like I did in radio when I was doing a gardening radio show. It was a storytelling radio show It really was I turned everything into a story. I can't do it in this compact thing I don't know so I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet.
I'm asking friends I'm calling out friends in the podcasting community and asking for advice and I'm going to do that to you my email address is simple Michael dot crows c r o s e at Gmail dot com. I want to hear from you What do you think I can do to make this more exciting? Because I what I'm thinking about doing all right. I've done a couple of Saturday shows Did that we're just about nothing and those Saturday shows if you look at my analytics a lot of traction a lot of people listening to it Well, that's those are like 30 45 minute shows and Lots of people this is seven to ten to twelve minutes and not a lot of people and I work hard at it But I don't know it's it's I wanted to make my heart sing I truly do I want this to be something that I'm proud of and the way that I would be proud of it Is if I had more people listening to it and the way I'm gonna get more people listening to it is to make it better And that's up to me.
That's not up to you. That's up to me But if you have any suggestions, I'll take them all right It gone are the days when the radio network would hire big-time consultants to come in and sit with me and tell me what to do gone are the days when I would go to an NAB convention and the guys, you know click and clack the Audio show said they listen to my show and they give me advice and my ratings went up after I followed their advice So I don't know we'll see what happens stay tuned
