What Should the Ocarina of Time Remake Actually Change?

from The Famiriety Show · host Famicorp

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is coming back in 2026, and I have a LOT of thoughts about what Nintendo should actually do with it.Ocarina of Time is one of the most important games ever made. It’s also a 28-year-old Nintendo 64 game. Some of it has aged beautifully. Some of it… has not. So when Nintendo remakes Ocarina of Time, where do you draw the line? Do you keep it almost exactly the same, like Ocarina of Time 3D, just with modern graphics, controls, and quality-of-life improvements? Or do you go completely the other direction and reimagine it like Resident Evil 2 or Final Fantasy VII? Personally, I think Nintendo should land somewhere in the middle. There are things about Ocarina of Time that absolutely should be modernized — the camera, item management, menus, text, movement, Hyrule Field, and a whole bunch of little things that make you wonder how we ever put up with them. But there are also things that make Ocarina of Time Ocarina of Time. The linear progression. The dungeon-focused design. The relationship between items and exploration. The weirdness. The atmosphere. The seven-year time jump. And, of course, that ridiculous soundtrack. I don't want Nintendo to turn Ocarina of Time into another open-world Zelda. I don't want them to modernize it so much that the original game gets lost underneath it.But I also don't think a remake should be afraid to expand on ideas that the Nintendo 64 simply couldn't fully realize. So… what do YOU want from the Ocarina of Time remake?Should it be a faithful remake, a complete reimagining, or something somewhere in between?#NintendoSwitch2 #Ocarina #OcarinaRemake
