What the Bible Says about Divorce and the Church

Pastor Sam Rainer preaches through every verse of Matthew’s gospel. This week’s sermon covers Matthew 5:17-48 and Matthew 19:1-11. The Sermon on the Mount has several examples of what it means to live righteously. Divorce, in particular, is one area where the church has struggled. Since divorce is common, there are lots of opinions and lots of hurt surrounding the issue. The church should not treat divorced people with shame. Christ’s forgiveness drives you, not shame. Divorce is not an unforgivable sin.
