What if instead of ignoring and turning a blind eye to a “dog eat dog” corporate culture, we instead talked about solutions and a different business model? In this "Legacy Series" conversation, I chat with my dear friend Shirley Chock. Shirley was raised in a family business and graduated with her Bachelor's of Arts in Economics from the University of Chicago. She enjoyed a 20 year career in finance and administration, including a short work life at Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong. During this time, she also began training under Grandmaster Aiping Cheng and in 2006, became the U.S. Women’s Tai Chi National Champion. Over the course of her career, Shirley realized her Tai Chi training was instrumental in helping her manage workplace stress, conflicts as well as associates. In 2012, she was named “Working Mother Magazine’s Working Mother of the Year for Yale University”. In 2017, Shirley became the owner of Aiping Tai Chi Center, southern Connecticut’s largest Tai Chi school established in 1996 by her mentor. She is speaking today in the capacity of one who trains women around stress and conflict management. Mrs. Chock's perspective is that of a Tai Chi martial artist as it relates to redirecting force, momentum and energy. We talk about the concept of “fairness”, identifying ‘allies’, what makes a group gel together as a team compared to when a woman feels she has to prove her “worth”, recognizing the cycle of chasing other’s approval while disappearing from one’s own soul, the importance of a healthy corporate culture as an environment to grow, the realities of this world, how corporate cultures can be changed by the work force and how the element of water can be strong enough to break down walls. Our Story: We believe the positive legacy of every human being can be realized with great coaching. Most of us are not developing the kind of legacy that allows us to be as happy and intentional as we'd like to be. We think, speak and write about developing personal life legacies so others can see a way forward with ease and possibilities. If the path to your legacy is defined and developed, you will be able to experience more freedom, fulfillment and satisfaction. Our Mission Statement: Developing a holistic legacy is not yet an endeavor to pursue for most people, even if it could be a vision ‘one day’, which sometimes makes people feel overwhelmed and with clay feet. We wake up every morning and pave a way for "new legacy conversations" so more people can take personal agency in designing their lasting legacy. Our Theme: If the bridge to a personal legacy is made clear, more people will be able to cross to the other side and design a legacy filled with meaning and their values. - If you’re not a client yet, here’s your invitation to schedule your consultation and book your first session online today. We work with self-made entrepreneurs, family office executives, NextGen family members, trustees of charitable estates and those participating in family foundations.
