What This Moment Demands | Xhanti Payi on Leadership, Belonging & Purpose

In this episode of Context, Sebenzile Nkambule sits down with economist and strategist Xhanti Payi for a thoughtful conversation about purpose, leadership and the unfinished work of building a democratic society.Reflecting on his own journey from corporate economist to entrepreneur, Xhanti explores what it means to lose certainty, rediscover purpose and contribute beyond professional titles. The conversation moves beyond economics to examine belonging, education, public discourse, reconciliation and the values that hold societies together. Together, they ask whether South Africa's greatest challenge is not only economic, but deeply human: how do we create a society where more people feel seen, valued and able to contribute? At its heart, this is a conversation about choosing contribution over status, curiosity over certainty, and service over self-interest.A reflective discussion on leadership, humanity and the future we are building together.
