What Will It Take For Nebraska To Win The Big Ten West In 2023? | Nebraska Football 2023
from College Football with Sam · host Samuel Recker
I inaccurately predicted Nebraska to win the Big Ten West in 2022. While I don't think the Huskers will win the West in year one under Matt Rhule, it is a possibility because of multiple reasons. Number 1, quarterbacks Jeff Sims, Chubba Purdy, and Heinrich Haarberg are athletic and provide an upside that hasn't been seen since Taylor Martinez and Tommy Armstrong were in the same quarterback room. Number 2, the wide receiver and running back rooms are deep, providing the offense with some functionality and plenty of explosiveness. Wide receiver Marcus Washington returns and the Huskers also add Billy Kemp IV and Josh Fleeks from the transfer portal. Also, the Huskers return Zavier Betts, who was inactive in 2022. Gabe Ervin Jr and Anthony Grant appear to be the starting two players at running back, but if the offensive line is a disaster again I doubt the run game will have an impact. The secondary also has the experience, but the front six is going to have some questions to answer in the opening game against Minnesota. If Nebraska wants to use these advantages to win the West, they have to develop good offensive linemen and form a team identity. They also have to ensure they have explosiveness in the run and pass, along with making sure they can stop the run defensively.
