What will we do next?
from Daily Picture · host Stephanie Hawkins
Yesterday I read these words from a secular book: "What happened is never what defined you in life. What you did next is what defines you". I would apply the wisdom in those words to the present tense, saying "what you do next is what defines you". Those words are not attributed to God, but their wisdom reminds me that we are all created by God, whether we believe in Him or not, and have His DNA in us, as with offspring possessing some aspects of their parents. The following bible verse declares the unity of all, with God being in all of us: "One God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all" (Ephesians 4:6). Indeed, what we do next is important. Our reactions and actions impact our lives. The word 'Repent' may be very off-putting when linked to the Latin word 'poena' for punishment, penalty and regret. However in the New Testament the call to repent is from the Greek word, 'metanoeō' meaning to change one's mind, purpose and direction. To repent is thus a big action of turning right round from what does not please God to following His Will, but it is not a harsh and off-putting word. There is excitement and joy in now following God who so wants you.
