What You Can Do at a Local Level to Make Real Changes

from PowerToFly · host Nicole Felter

I was raised in a household that encouraged civic engagement, but they sure didn't tell me the major place to focus was my local government. It wasn't until I was covering nine cities/counties at one time in Middle Georgia, that I realized just how much of my day-to-day life was decided within City Hall. Everything from police salaries and disciplinary actions to how many potholes would be filled, all discussed in front of a room full of **drum roll** THREE citizens on the average. Since realizing how few of us know how local government works and how to use it for community impact, I have been on a mission to spread the knowledge. We'll talk about: The parts of your local government Your city councilperson and how to approach them Your right to public information and how to get ahold of it Starting with City Council meetings
