It came from ordinary people, in ordinary conversation, in a moment when no one was forcing his hand. And one after another, under almost no pressure at all, he did the very thing he had promised he never would — not once, but three times, each one worse than the last. It was a complete collapse. And then a single, ordinary sound in the distance broke him wide open, because it meant every word of the warning had come true.He went out and wept like a man whose story was over.And if that were the end of the passage, it would be one of the most crushing failures in all of Scripture.
