What You Need to Know Before You Sign: Contracts Basics - Including Podcast Contracts, too! (Part 1)

from Managing Client Disputes for Service Providers | Fixing Burnout, Scope Creep, Contract Issues · host Sheila M. Wilkinson, LMSW, Esq.

In today's episode - the first of five episodes in this contracts series - I'm going to introduce you to the basics of a contract. And y'all: contracts are my favorite! Contracts are the one thing you can do and always be happy with the outcome. Contracts are the law of the relationship between you and your client. Because no matter what you discussed on the phone, in that email or text message, whatever, once you write it in the contract, it's understood that everything you mean is inside that document - the contract. You have to be careful from that moment onward, to make sure you stick to what you said - do not deviate, do not make an exception "just this one time" … Stick to your contract and you'll get out what you put in. And for those of you who do work because of contracts, but aren't the one who negotiates the contract, that's okay, but you still need to know what the contract says so you can fulfill your obligations and keep everybody happy. In this episode, we're covering: The number one mistake I see people making about contracts (and I'll also give you the second biggest mistake, too) Who is responsible for the contract (and how to ensure you always stay on the up and up) What a contract is and isn't, and the differences between contracts depending on where you and your client are in the world Why you shouldn't use a contract template (and if you are, how to make sure it's good enough for you), and finally, When you need a contract and don't, and how to go about making sure you're protected. At the end, as always, I leave you with a bit of homework to start taking action today. Y'all ready? Let's do this! >>>  My mission is to help service-based professionals figure out exactly what they want, realize it's 100% within reach, and create a simple, actionable plan that will get them there (without having to burn everything to the ground and start from scratch!). The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
