What's a Patent? Understanding the Basics of Utility, Design + Plant Patents (Part 5)

from Managing Client Disputes for Service Providers | Fixing Burnout, Scope Creep, Contract Issues · host Sheila M. Wilkinson, LMSW, Esq.

In today's Episode (41), we're continuing the discussion about intellectual property, and particularly, intellectual property rights related to PATENTS. This is the last major type of intellectual property that we'll discuss for now, so let's dig in! If you're new to the series, you might pop back a couple of episodes to listen after today's episode. As I've said before - this is not legal advice, and this is NOT exhaustive. This is just the basics - to help you understand the basics - it's the bare minimum. All of the information you could ever need is on the US Patent and Trademark Office's website, which I link below the show notes, and there's also a really informative 45-minute video that I'm linking, too - it's super fun, you'll love it.  My concern is to get introduced to Patents, so you know when you need help, to know when to ask for help, to go to a lawyer and get advice, guidance, and protect yourself. In this episode, I specifically touch on the three types of patents: design patents, utility patents, and plant patents.  There's a lot here that I could talk about, but there's only so much I want to go into right now - we can go deeper in the future. Right now, today, we are focusing on the foundations, and you'll be happy to know that patents are a lot more straightforward than you think. My purpose is to help you understand the basics of patents, and when you should protect them, as well! At the end, as always, I leave you with a bit of homework to start taking action today. Y'all ready? Let's do this! >>>  My mission is to help licensed and certified, service-based professionals figure out exactly what they want, realize it's 100% within reach, and create a simple, actionable plan that will get them there. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
