What's at stake in the birthright citizenship Supreme Court case

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear arguments over an executive order ending birthright citizenship.  President Trump signed that order in his first days in office. A federal judge in Seattle temporarily blocked the Trump administration from enforcing the order nationwide. And two other legal challenges – in federal courts in Massachusetts and Maryland – also prompted injunctions.  Now the Supreme Court will decide whether a 125 year old constitutional right to citizenship for people born in the United States to non-citizen parents is guaranteed.
