What's in a Name 2: Mighty God - Isaiah 9:1-7

What's in a name. The more we know a person, their name becomes rich, multicolored, multi-faceted. When the name comes up, it evokes many memories, thoughts. I've been married to my wife many years. When I hear her name, immediately I have thoughts that make me smile or laugh straight out, some evoke admiration and gratitude. Even our differences have given way to richness. All that right within a name. I could say, "My wife is Donna". But her name means so much more. How much more with God, the longer we walk with him, the more we put colour to his name. Through experience he fills his name with meaning. In advent we're walking through Isaiah 9 which anticipates the Messiah. It could have said, the name of the child to be born is God. Even that would have been incredible. But it says even more. That his name will be Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. What's in a name--so much is in a name.
