Everyone remembers Katrina. That name is synonymous with destruction and loss. Hundreds of thousands of New Orleanians evacuated from New Orleans with nothing but a portion of their families, a few hundred dollars if that and despair. It leaves to question if anything good came out of Katrina. The answer I move to motion is Chef Nureka Chapman-Henderson. Throughout our conversation, I heard disappointment and frustration then I witnessed her Victor Lap. Chef attributes her craft to her city, being selfless, her upbringing and her grit. We talk about her humble beginnings in the 9th ward, how broken relationships caused her to close her first restaurant and regroup; the moment of the episode is when she has to answer if her skills surpass her mom, aunt and grandmother.
