What’s the Difference? (Lesson 1)
from The Truth Church
Pastor Hilton opens his message with Jude 20-23, focusing on verse 22: 'of some have compassion making a difference.' He asks what distinguishes the Truth Church—the difference of Pentecost. He affirms the foundational doctrine of the Oneness of God, explaining that when we read 'Father' we think Spirit, and when we read 'Son' we think flesh; God was in Christ reconciling the world. But the key difference is love and compassion. Jesus was moved with compassion—toward the multitude, toward the leper, toward the scattered sheep. His compassion drove His ministry, not obligation. Because God is love, and Jesus is God incarnate, His love led Him to lay down His life. That love compels us to obedience, not exemption from it. Pastor Hilton then connects this to the church as the body of Christ. Jesus prayed in John 17 that we would be one as He and the Father are one—that the world may believe. The Spirit dwelling in us makes the difference. Romans 8:9 shows that if the Spirit of God dwells in you, you are not in the flesh but in the Father. This unity of the Spirit—sharing God's dreams, desires, and goals—enables the church to operate as Jesus did. Jesus gave the church authority; the gates of hell shall not prevail. When two or three gather in His name, He is present. The ministry is given to edify the body of Christ until we all come to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Each member has a particular role, operating in the same Spirit. Without this corporate operation, our city is cheated of what God wants to give through us.
