Gaul explains to Perrin that his clan has a blood-feud with the clan of one of the maidens that will be accompanying them to the Two Rivers. With a little luck he says, they won't have to kill each other. While the party is riding out of the city, the Stone “rang like a monstrous bell” this is Rand, slamming Callandor into the floor of the Heart.
