When and why did architecture isolate itself as a profession?: Eisenman vs Alexander [Part 2]

from Talk Architecture · host Naziaty

Send us Fan MailWhen and why did architecture isolate itself as a profession? We need to focus on asking better questions when it comes to the architecture profession. Although the Eisenman versus Alexander debate in 1982, seems so long ago, the relevance of what the latter has to say and his legacy influencing computer science, says to me the necessity for us to understand his work in terms of architecture. From my observation, UI/UX designers utilize 'universal design principles' much more than architects who have caught themselves in this 'form-making bubble' that makes the profession isolated. And now even more so with the Sustainable Development Goals, we need more generative, adaptable, and flexible concepts that the more linear and rectilinear forms can afford.©️Talk Architecture 2023, Author: Naziaty Mohd Yaacob.  Photo credit Image from  Shutterstock: Abstract white tunnel interior background with wavy walls, 3D rendering illustrationSupport the showDo subscribe for premium content and special features which will help to support and sustain Talk Architecture podcast on a more in-depth explanation on design thesis and processes. Bauer, Florian Schneider, Axel Weber & Dr. Tillman Bardt The Newmorrow PodCast is more than a podcast — it's a platform for open dialog on the future of our business, a platform for those building what doesn’t exist yet. Here, we share and embrace our passion for the hospitality industry, but we won’t romanticize the journey. We ask the tough questions, confront uncomfortable truths, and prepare for a future that resists easy answers. We believe that the tougher and wilder times become, the more openly, honestly and humanely people need to talk to each other and act together. We believe, openness, togetherness, and truthfulness should also be cornerstones of a professional community to develop our utopian idea of „open source“. This is a space where visionaries don’t just imagine the future — they wrestle with the paradoxes that shape it: success vs. happiness, data vs. instinct, stability vs. reinvention. Join leaders, entrepreneurs, and thinkers as they share not what made them — but what’s actively shaping them, now and next. So tune in
