When Chasing too much leaves you empty.

What you pay attention to quietly becomes what you worship. Alan Gedde makes a case that hits home for anyone feeling pulled in too many directions - from news cycles and sports obsession to hunting, money, and everything else fighting for your focus. Using Matthew 6:19-24 as the foundation, Alan unpacks why “treasure” is bigger than bank accounts. He shows how your time, energy, attention, and imagination can get spent on temporary things - and how that eventually shapes your heart, your habits, and your peace. You’ll hear Alan connect the verse to real life in unexpected ways: the nonstop pull of Fox News and ESPN, the money-soaked world of football, the addiction loop of pornography, and even the way elk hunting can consume his mind for days at a time. Those examples all point to the same deeper question: where is your attention actually going? He also breaks down the striking language in the passage about “squinty-eyed greed and distrust,” what it means to live with your eyes wide open to God instead of narrowing your vision to one obsession, and why Jesus’ warning about serving both God and money still lands hard - even when money is only part of the story.
