When Death Is a Defeated Enemy: Wisdom from Proverbs 16:7 (Ep. 174)
from The Joe Rooz Show · host Joe Russiello
In this episode, I open the word of God with you and explore a profound promise: when a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him (Proverbs 16:7). We look at death as Scripture defines it—an enemy—and consider how, through the finished work of Jesus Christ, that enemy becomes a defeated one for the believer. Drawing from 1 Corinthians 15, Hebrews 2, Romans 5, Ephesians 2, and Colossians 1, I walk through why Christ is our perfect ally, how Scripture is our flawless intelligence, why His victory provides absolute superiority over death, and what a true exit strategy looks like in the light of the Gospel. Along the way, I contrast famous last words of unbelievers with the confident, hope-filled testimonies of saints like D. L. Moody and F. B. Meyer, and reflect on Hezekiah’s extended years and the Songs of Degrees as a picture of gratitude and preservation of God’s Word. We conclude by rejoicing in God’s promise that death is swallowed up in victory and will one day be utterly destroyed (Revelation 20:14). For the believer, the Good Shepherd prepares a table for us even in the presence of our enemies—we can feast in hope, live in wisdom, and rest in the peace Christ purchased with His blood. If you’ve wandered, come back to Him: seek His counsel, pray, and trust the Savior who conquered the grave.
