When Family Leaves Us Hungry: Misplaced Nourishment in Relationships

from Therapist In Your Pocket with Lucy Ellis · host Lucy Ellis

In this episode, we look at dream themes around family dynamics and the idea of nourishment in our dreams. Exploring, what we often give and receive in our relationships and how that isn’t necessarily balanced or in alignment with nurturing ourselves.   We spend some time chatting about our recent dream patterns. Shauna reflects on the idea that what is nourishing shouldn’t have to be rigid and Lucy explores how much sweetness has been in hers.    Dream Explored: I was headed to my sister’s house and considering what to do for dinner as I went. She said she wasn’t hungry and I decided to cook for myself with whatever was on hand. Outside of her house was an old stove top, the surrounding yard was very green and overgrown with canopy trees. It was becoming dusk and the sun was intense but the greenery kept me cool and shaded. I found a pan and started throwing in random ingredients, none of which were food items. There was an animal that approached the stove as I cooked and I think a child as well. As I cooked, the “food” lost its flavor and began to burn. I had found some file folders that I thought may soften and become edible so I threw those in but they were plastic and only became harder. I tried cutting these but it didn’t work and I felt so frustrated and hungry. Whitney came out and lectured us, although the meaning did not convey. My partner had arrived at some point hoping to eat dinner too but it was ruined. I took everything from the yard that I had left at some point, all the things rotting or useless. I took them as to clean the space since I didn’t intend to return to it.   Connect with Shauna: www.spiraljourneydreamwork.com [email protected] @dreamingwithshauna (instagram)   Connect with Lucy: www.lucyellis.com.au 0424599264 [email protected] @lucyellis_therapy (instagram)   To submit a dream go here: https://forms.gle/PL4VuCLp5dNcEfv77 If we recently talked about your dream, give us some feedback here: https://forms.gle/WMWPa781VGkHCGs98
